Joondalup Men's Shed
Craftsmanship, Precision & Tech in the Shed:There is nothing quite like the feeling of watching a high-tech tool bring a creative idea to life! Steve has been a valued member of the Joondalup Men's Shed since 2012, and over the years he’s become one of our resident CNC experts, mastering the craft of digital design and laser engraving to produce some truly brilliant custom signage. His latest batch of wooden signs—from clever plaques to beautiful illustrative work like his cartoon zebra—shows just how much talent, experience, and attention to detail our members bring to the table.Over his years with us, Steve has spent countless hours perfecting his setups on the laser, fine-tuning the power and speed parameters to get those lines looking razor-sharp every single time. Whether he's etching signs for our Tool Museum, prep work for the upcoming Wanneroo Show, or fun custom plaques, his precision is absolutely top-tier. It's a fantastic example of how we successfully combine traditional timber skills with modern digital technology here at the Shed.Of course, keeping things safe is always priority number one. Steve is fully kitted out in his safety goggles and hearing protection, showing us all the gold standard for workshop practice.Have you ever tried your hand at combining digital design with traditional woodworking? Joondalup Men's Shed
It takes a village (and a very talented Shed)! 🛠️✨We recently had the pleasure of delivering custom-built chalkboards to the students at Spring Hill Primary School in Tapping. While the students are busy creating their latest masterpieces, we wanted to highlight the team that made it all happen.First up is Dennis (pictured in the yellow shirt), the craftsman responsible for building these sturdy boards. You might recognize his handiwork elsewhere—he’s also the talent behind our popular mud kitchens! He’s pictured here with his workshop mate Alan, because as every Shedder knows, the best projects are the ones built with a bit of good company. Once the sawdust settled, our delivery team took over: a big thanks to Graham, Bill, Dave, Colin, and Graham for getting these safely to the school. The feedback from Carol at Spring Hill has been heart-warming; the kids haven't stopped drawing since the boards arrived. At the Joondalup Men's Shed, we love seeing a project go from a sketch in the workshop to a hub of creativity in the playground. Well done to everyone involved! Our local Kindy artists are already hard at work! If you had a giant chalkboard like this, what would you draw first? Let us know in the comments! 🖍️✨...#JoondalupMensShed #SpringHillPrimary #MeetTheMaker #CommunityProject #MensShed ... See MoreSee Less

Joondalup Men's Shed
"How do you want to feel on your 100th birthday?" 🎂We had a cracker of a session at the Joondalup Men’s Shed yesterday with David Beard. David shared his journey from a young physiotherapist to a health advocate, reminding us that while we can’t stop the clock, we absolutely have a say in how we age.The room was buzzing during David's "100th Birthday Challenge." He asked us what we still want to be able to do when we hit triple digits. The answers from our Shedders ranged from "just keep breathing" to "remaining mobile enough to keep working in the shed!" It wasn't just about the physical stuff, though; David’s biggest takeaway was about Attitude. He challenged us to find three good things that happened each day—a simple habit that can actually lower blood pressure and improve mental health.Ready to get moving? David isn't finished with us yet! He’ll be back next week running his specialized "Make a Move" sessions to help us put these ideas into practice.👉 Check out the full details and session times here: www.facebook.com/share/p/17XqF9MrBi/It’s not every day you get a reminder that "old" is just a moving target—usually 10 years older than wherever you are right now! A huge thanks to David for the laughs, the wisdom, and the reminder to keep up with those "wall push-ups."David challenged us to think about our 100th birthday. If you hit the 100-mark, what is the ONE thing you still want to be able to do? What do you get when you mix a few discarded pallets and a bit of Men’s Shed ingenuity? You get this fantastic, heavy-duty mud kitchen ready for the Lake Joondalup Baptist College!Gerry (pictured on the right), along with Dennis and Dave (the camera-shy expert behind the scenes), have been transforming raw materials into treasures. They’ve taken heat-treated pallets—safe and sturdy for school environments—and upcycled them into a premium outdoor play station. With its custom-fitted plywood benchtop and genuine stainless steel double sink, this isn't just a toy; it's a piece of shed-standard furniture built to withstand decades of mud pies and schoolyard fun.Projects like these are the heartbeat of the Joondalup Men's Shed. We love being able to use our skills to give back to the next generation of little legends. We reckon the kids are going to have a blast with this! Do you know a local school or playgroup that could use some JMS magic in their playground? Tag them in the comments below! 👇...#JoondalupMensShed #CommunitySpirit #Upcycling #Bunnings #MensShedWA ...
